Keep them coming, I love them. They look excellent on my HO layout.
I think you should make the Blues Brothers, Dodge Monaco Police Car.
Trainman
I second the idea of the 1974 Monaco from the Blues Brothers in 1/87 scale! Any 1960s through 1970s movie cars or trucks would be welcome. I am grateful for your product line.
Ed
I also love the 1/87 scale vehicles and vote for the movie Bullitt, both the Charger and Mustang.
Brian
Love anything in 1/87 scale. 60's and 70's american cars prefered.
the HO market is expanding fast. love to see the muscle cars from late 60's and early 70's in this scale
I agree 100% hofan!! I would love to see Chargers, Challengers, Cuda's, Superbirds, Super Bees, AMX's, Javelins, SCRamblers, Machines, Novas, any muscle cars!!!!
But, now that 1 out of my BIG THREE has been done, I still would love to see these two done: A 1979 Camaro Z28, and Starsky's Gran Torino!!!! The third was the Trans Am that was just done!!!
It is great to finally find some HO scale vehicles that are not just expensive sports cars, and at an affordable price. I hope Malibu International Makes a Posting area for their products too; it would be nice to be able to give them some input on future vehicles. What is great about Reel Rides is that there have been a lot of awesome vehicles in the movies and on TV over the years so the potential for some great HO scale vehicles is large, but I want to see a lot of HO scale cars and trucks produced based off of vehicles that I actually see on the road everyday in the real world. Reel Rides has done well so far (so has the regular Malibu International) at not only offering sports cars and exotics. I think it would be exciting to find HO scale models of: Toyota FJ Cursers and Camry’s, Honda Elements and civics, Dodge Chargers (classic and new), Nitro’s, Calibers, Chrysler 300s, Volvo Station Wagons, Pickup trucks from any manufacturer, and many more…
I second the idea ... 1) 1969 NOVA COUPE 2) Chevy Truck 1965 CHEVY is beloved in Argentina
I'm really pleased to see some less exotic cars being produced in 1/87 scale. The model railroad market is crying out for standard GM, Ford and Mopar models.
I love Corvettes (I own a 73 Coupe), Camaros, other muscle cars, Ferarris, etc. but you can only have so many of those on as layout without it looking like an exotic car yard.
But they were/are not the common garden variety 4 doors and wagons we see every day on the street. These are what is needed for model railroad layouts. Impalas, Luminas, Novas, Vegas, Fairlanes, Galaxies, etc.
That is what the 1/87 model railroad market needs, and if you guys satisfy it with the quality shown in your existing issues, you'll be very successful.
cheers
Dave
ponyman i think THESE ARE A GREAT FIRST RUN. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE 2ND RUN. ALSO AFTER TALKING TO SOURCE @ MALIBU I'M GLAD TO HEAR THAT AS THE MODELS ARE RETIRED FROM THE REELRIDES RUN THAT SOME WILL END UP IN BLACKBOX SERIES IN DIFFERENT COLORS. ALSO GLAD TO SEE THIS IS BACKED BY THE LASTEST ARTICLE IN MODEL RAILROAD NEWS. I HOPE THAT MALIBU WILL PRODUCE SOME SUBURBANS, EXPEDITIONS, AND NAVIGATORS USED AS SECRET SERVICE VEHICLES IN SO MANY MOVIES AND TV SHOWS. WE COULD ALSO USE THE CHEVY CREWCAB DUALLY THAT MEL GIBSON DROVE IN THE LETHAL WEAPON MOVIES. AGAIN KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. CUDOS. BRYAN
Great bunch of cars!! ANY PICKUPS fom the 60's on up would be great to see!! Also, the R700 Mack from the movie "CONVOY" and the needle nosed Peterbilt from "DUEL". Both of these trucks would fit in with a line of vintage trucks by Malibu.
Has anyone found the "malibu" 1/87 scale cars available in Canada? I've found them in Walmart stores when visiting the States but nothing up here in the "Cold White North"!
Man, of all the "famous" vehicles I can think of the 2 that pop immediatly to the front of the list are the star and co-star of the 70's hit TV series EMERGENCY!. Squad 51 and Engine 51, that duo was the sole reason I became interested in pursuing being a fire fighter. I have built a squad 51 in HO scale but it's nowhere near as good as it would be as if it was made proffesionaly. The 1/25th scale Squad 51 I built is actually autographed by Randolph Mantooth aka, L.A.F.D. Paramedic Johnny Gage! This pair would be AWESOME in HO scale!!!
I realy like these reel ride cars! A few models that I'ld like to see, go ahead and laugh!
1978 Mustang Cobra II from Charlie's Angels,The Monkey's GTO station wagon,Darrin Steven's (bewitched) 72 Mustand conv. & corvette conv. Stalone's 50 Merc from cobra,68 GT mustang "Elenore" gone in 60 secs.and from Nash Bridges that yellow /white conv. 70 cuda! other than that , you know what else? Just some every day no B.S. cars from my youth that I didnt appreciate when we had them. cougars 1967-1970, chevy Bel-airs 1963-1968 , El Caminos1968-1976 cars that made you want one!!!
The Monkees car was a GTO with an elongated interior and a Model A Ford style touring car folding top.
IHC has the dies and includes randomly the old Tyco 1968 Camaro and 1968 AMX in some of their structure kits. They're still not hard to find at train shows, I must have 20 or 30 of each one.
Be nice to see some 50's Studebakers done, the Muppet Movie coupe is a good start. Prferrably in non-psychadelic paint.
It's probably going to come down to what the folks in China can make dies for and what the automakers will license combined with what movies they can get the rights to use the logos from. A '58 Edsel in HO die cast would be pretty nice, too. The old EKO one has been OOP so long, the last time I looked on eBay, they were selling for like $40 each.
If they did a Convoy series, that '55 Chevy pickup with the camper on it would be a nice addition. It appears through the movie, although never really stars in it.
Here's a few ides. Lets look at some of the "late" models. I Iike what hobbies62 suggested about getting some newer cars The Vovlos the Chevy Impala SS and the Monte Carlo SS, the Dodge Neon, the Pontiac G6, the Chevy Trailblazer, even some minivans, like the Caravan, and the Uplander. Now for the older cars I suggest... Of coarse the AMC Hornet, Matador Coupe, and Sadan Police car from The Man With the Golden Gun, The AMC Gremlin from The Wedding Singer, and last but NOT LEAST.... THE MERTH MOBILE!!!!!!!!! Come on! You know all layouts HAVE to have an AMC Pacer. For the NON AMC's, I think there should be an "Elanore" from Gone in 60 Seconds, the car from Cobra, and all of the cars from the movie The Gumball Rally. I know it's not a very popular movie, but the cars are. Go rent the movie today and see for yourself!!!
AMCfan78, some amc's are available from the fresh cherries. gremlin, pacer. I would like to see hornet wagon, matador wagons, nobody yet has done a wagon. And yes suburbans, expeditions etc, and how about s10, rangers, dakotas, jeep wagoneers and j10 pickups ( the older metal kits are nowhere to be found) any 50, 60, 70 s suburbans,
And yes, a tucker!!!
Say what you want about Wal-Mart and China, but thanks to them and the importers of 1:87 scale model die cast motor vehicles (four or five that I know of, most notably Malibu International Toys), I have saved at least $1,200 in making my HO gage model railroad layout look busy with cars, SUVs, vans, and pick 'em up trucks (pickups). Before I discovered these vehicles, my layout looked like a Sunday afternoon when most of the businesses are closed and most residents are out (off of my layout) for a Sunday drive. All I could afford was a few of the $8 to $15 vehicles from the hobby shops and mail order houses. And, from what I have seen, these much more affordable vehicles are better than those high price models.
At last count, I have 160 of these very nice, inexpensive vehicles and am looking for more different models, and especially pickup trucks. Of course, I don't have 160 different models. There are over 50, and in different colors. By spreading them around my layout, visitors don't notice that I have as many as 4 or 5 of some models.
I don't understand why the manufacturers are so stingy with pickups while they overdo it with convertibles??? If someone offered a whole assortment of pickups in different models and colors at these reasonable prices, I would snap it up.
I have a feeling that Malibu International produces a good many more of the 1:87 scale vehicles than Wal-Mart stocks. I have seen some of the models that I have offered by Walthers from Model Power. Model Power's website shows a bunch of 1:87 vehicles that I believe are by Malibu. Of course, their prices are higher and there are shipping charges.
I believe model railroaders are buying more of the 1:87 scale vehicles from Wal-Mart than the kids are. Recently, I saw what appears to be N gage scale vehicles by Malibu at a local Wal-Mart.
Has anyone found a website for Malibu like their Reel Rides site that shows all of their 1:87 scale line including the 18 wheeler tractors?
Most of my favorites have already been mentioned here, such as the Plymouth Fury from Christine, cars from Two Lane Blacktop and American Grafitti,(although I don't think anyone mentioned the yellow deuce coupe which would be great to see), but other good ones might be Stallone's Mercury from Cobra, the beater Merc from Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Vin Diesel's GTO from Triple X, and maybe even the blue AMC Pacer from Wayne's World or the MacKenzie brothers' van from Strange Brew. I also have to agree with the two posts above about the need for pickups, station wagons, etc. I would like to see an Econoline van from the early-mid sixties. My model railroad is set in a scrolling era, so I have a lot of vehicles to acquire and really appreciate seeing more ordinary ones. Just My $.02 worth.
Here are a couple of more ideas for cars to do. I hope you'll consider them: The cars from the TV series Adam 12.
They were:
1967 Plymouth Belvedere seen on the first episode (ID# 80789); a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere (ID# 80817); a 1969 Plymouth Belvedere (ID# 80817); a 1971 Plymouth Satellite (ID# 83012); and a 1972 AMC Matador (ID# 85012).
Just an idea.

Here is my top 10 list:
1. 2000 Chevy Impala 2. 1995 Ford Taurus 3. 2000 Ford Taurus 4. 1995 Ford Explorer 5. 2005 Explorer
6. 2000 Chevy Suburban 7. 1995 Chevy Suburban 8. Any Chevy pickup 9. Any Dodge Pickup and more cargo vans like the Ford E-350 versions from the 1990's.
Actually, please consider more modern vehicles in the future releases. I would love to see a vehicle from each decade starting with the 60's-2007. In other words, a future release could contain 5 vehicles from 5 different decades.

It's awful quiet in here. Did Malibu International go on vacation??? They got us all excited with the first issue of Reel Rides, then did little to keep us there by offering up more 1:87 scale models.
Their news letter and this site show three new models, but I've heard the Back To The Future car is not available in 1:87. I'm wondering about the Cadillac too. So far, I've been able to find only the Mini Cooper.
In regards to 1:87 scale vehicles, I don't understand their's and Wal-Mart's marketing methods. I believe M. I. has confused America with Europe. The majority of their 1:87 offerings are European models, even trucks and caravans that you never see in the USA. I guess Europeans don't drive pickup trucks, or M.I. doesn't know how popular they are with Americans. When the Reel Rides first came out in the 9 Wal-Mart stores in my area, all the pickups disappeared fast, then the Smoky and the Bandit car next. The others are still available in some of the stores. If M.I. would offer the Reel Rides in different colors in their "Black Box" series, I wouldn't hesitate to buy several of the same model for my model railroad layout.
As for Wal-Mart, I believe if they had a million 1:87 scale M.I. cars in stock. they would put all of them out on the store shelves at the same time. There are only so many different models in the single car and 5 car pack Black Box assortments, yet they put dozens of the same thing on their shelves all at once. But, they seem to be getting a little wiser, as all the stores in my area have reduced the price of all the cars. Hopefully they will clear out so new models -and maybe some pickup trucks- can be put on the shelves -if M.I. will get back to work!!!
